Faren: Yeah, as the biographical note in FEELING VERY STRANGE says, M. Rickert is the author of stories in F&SF and has a new collection MAP OF DREAMS coming. “You Have Never Been Here” is terrific, and the collection has some wonderful stories in it.

I’m guessing this is the M. Rickert who wrote the lone original in anthology FEELING VERY STRANGE (Jonathan, you have my review of this and the other forthcoming goodies). Nice to know there’s more where that came from, and I hope to see the collection too.

I almost fell off my chair when I read this today. Thanks so much for the kind words. Also, you’re right, Marty Halpern is an amazing editor. I’m a big fan of Thomas Canty as well, and am thrilled to have him doing the cover. This has been a wonderful experience for me and I am so pleased to have my first book be one created with such attention to craft. Thanks for your support and the support of Coode Streeters.

Well, don’t get too overly fond of the cover . . . Typically what Thomas Canty provides us initially isn’t always what we end up with in the end.

Marty: You’re right. I shouldn’t. Just on the basis of three books: The Empire of Icrecream, Map of Dreams, and The Jennifer Morgue GG is seriously in the running. All three books are outstandingly good.

Ellen: It is, isn’t it? Sometimes Canty covers seem a bit cliched, but this one is lovely.

Susan: I’m not going to twist your arm about Vance at all. I’m still finding my way there, though I will blog more about it as we go, so you’ll know if there are any epiphanies. The Rickert, though, is a safe bet.

Done. I loved “Anyway”, the cover art is gorgeous, and I’ve yet to go wrong trusting your judgment (although I have to admit I’m not much of a Jack Vance fan).

Hey, Jonathan! If Justin wants to give Golden Gryphon Press the title of “publisher of the year,” then you need to let him! It’s certainly okay by me!

Seriously, thanks for the kind words, Justin, with regards to GGP, and thanks, too, Jonathan, for the kudos regarding Mary Rickert’s short fiction. I think “Anyway” is one of the most underrated short stories of last year, particularly in light of the current US politicial environment — and yet “Anyway” is a story for all time.
