{"id":1791,"date":"2009-08-19T14:55:13","date_gmt":"2009-08-19T06:55:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jonathanstrahan.com.au\/wp\/?p=1791"},"modified":"2009-08-23T19:06:01","modified_gmt":"2009-08-23T11:06:01","slug":"eclipse-three-ted-chiang-and-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jonathanstrahan.com.au\/wp\/2009\/08\/19\/eclipse-three-ted-chiang-and-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Eclipse Three, Ted Chiang and the future&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3594\/3697324928_efd7a99bb3_o.jpg\" border=\"1\" alt=\"Eclipseall\" width=\"600\" height=\"298\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve just returned from Sydney, San Francisco, Montreal and Melbourne.\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s way too much to report to fit into one post (and I&#8217;m awful at recording events), but one of the highlights was accepting the Hugo Award on behalf of Ted Chiang, whose brilliant short story &#8220;Exhalation&#8221; from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/nightshadebooks.com\/cart.php?m=product_detail&amp;p=124\">Eclipse Two<\/a><\/strong>, was honored by the members of the World Science Fiction Society in the Best Short Story category.\u00c2\u00a0 I love the story and was delighted that it won.<\/p>\n<p>The Hugo results were announced the day after I delivered <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/nightshadebooks.com\/cart.php?m=product_detail&amp;p=148\" target=\"_self\">Eclipse Three<\/a><\/strong> to Night Shade Books for an expected October 2009 publication (it should be out for World Fantasy).\u00c2\u00a0 There might be some tiny changes but the table of contents for the book is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Pelican Bar, Karen Joy Fowler<\/li>\n<li>A Practical Girl <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">Lotion<\/span>, Ellen Klages<\/li>\n<li>Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t Mention Madagascar, Pat Cadigan<\/li>\n<li> On the Road, Nnedi Okorafor<\/li>\n<li>Swell, Elizabeth Bear<\/li>\n<li>Useless Things, Maureen F. Kiernan<\/li>\n<li>Dolce Domum, Ellen Kushner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m also delighted to be able to show you the cover for the book, which was done by the late Richard Powers (1). It&#8217;s a peach. It&#8217;s the one on right in the trio of images above.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh, and yes, there will be an<strong> Eclipse Four<\/strong>! I&#8217;ve not had a chance to work anything much out about it yet, but it looks like it&#8217;ll definitely happen.\u00c2\u00a0 More on it soon.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I should note that, while the cover image is final, there are changes to be made to the cover text.\u00c2\u00a0 The names on the front etc will change since this tentative design was completed.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll get the final up here when it&#8217;s done.
