… was a blur. This time I didn’t even try to blog it, but much fun was had. We arrived Wednesday afternoon, hooked up with Garth and my roommate Shaun and headed out for dinner. The hotel was nice, the town was kinda odd, but the people were great. Met up with Deb the next day and the convention was on. The rest of the time is a blur of unexpected conversations in the bar, near convention rooms, and so on with Ellen, Ellen, Daniel, George, Chris, Bill, Walter, Jay, Ken, Gordon, Graham, and a lot of others.  Like every good World Fantasy, it was exhausting, rewarding, delightful and a little depressing all at the same time. The last day, though, kinda speaks to what the time was like. Delayed at the airport for several hours, we played hide and seek to while away the time. It was fun. Tonight I head home. I’ll miss everyone and am moving into the headspace where I’m just concerned about getting home, but I’m also aware that there’s a LOT of work to do just as soon as I get back.  A lot.

Locus

On the back deck at Locus HQ in the Oakland hills with CNB and Justin.
And Oakland
The flight over was actually pretty good. We left an hour late, but we spent that in the terminal. They made the time up in the air, which meant we actually spent about twelve and a half hours in transit, rather than thirteen and a half, which was good. I also turned down a free upgrade to Economy Plus because I had three seats to myself. I actually slept for a chunk of the flight. That’s about as good as it gets for me.  Been spending some time now catching up with everyone at Locus, which is great.
S-s-s-Sydney
Well, the flight over was fine. Dull, and I was exhausted, but that’s fine. I’ve got a bit less than an hour till boarding and I’m hoping the seats are as advertised. Either way, San Francisco in 14hrs.
Plans, plans, planes
Plans. I’m an increasingly fussy and overconcerned traveler, I think. Where I used to be happy to rock up to the departure gate and see what happened, now I worry and tinker and plan. The plan for yesterday and today was take nice little sleeping pill, go to bed early, get a good night’s sleep, get cab, get to airport and go. Well, I took the little sleeping pill and went to bed. I fell asleep and slept for maybe three hours. Then I tossed and turned until it was time to get up. I had left all kinds of contingency time in the plan so I wouldn’t be late. I ended up sitting here in the Qantas terminal more than an hour before departure. Yay. The plane to Sydney is completely full (no surprise), so I don’t know if I’ll sleep. Still, apparently the plane to San Francisco is not too full. Right now I have an aisle seat with an empty middle and window beside it. If that holds true, I’ll be very happy indeed.
