As promised, here’s the gorgeous Stephan Martiniere cover art for Life on Mars, which is coming out next April. I love it, and think it makes a beautiful companion for The Starry Rift. I’m sincerely grateful to Stefan, Sharyn November and the team at Viking for the wonderful job they’ve done on this.
If the good folk at Amazon are to be believed, five days after my brother’s next birthday Viking will publish Life on Mars: Tales from New Frontiers, a book that I’ve dedicated to him. I would like to share the gorgeous Stephan Martiniere cover with you (it’s every bit as lovely as the piece he did for The Starry Rift), but I don’t have clearance to do that yet so here instead as something to whet your appetite is the table of contents for the book:
1. “Attlee and the Long Walk”, Kage Baker
2. “The Old Man and the Martian Sea”, Alastair Reynolds
3. “Wahala”, Nnedi Okorafor
4. “On Chryse Plain”, Stephen Baxter
5. “First Principle”, Nancy Kress
6. “Martian Chronicles”, Cory Doctorow (novella)
7. “Goodnight Moons”, Ellen Klages
8. “The Taste of Promises”, Rachel Swirsky
9. “Digging”, Ian McDonald
10. “LARP on Mars”, Chris Roberson
11. “Martian Heart”, John Barnes
12. “Discovering Life”, Kim Stanley Robinson

Gary Wolfe and I are back for a new podcast, and this time with no added guest magic. This time we discuss:
how some awards work, including the World Fantasy Awards,
believing in science fiction and its futures,
and a lot of other stuff too.
There’s probably some other stuff, but we recorded this this morning and I’m not going to re-listen to the whole thing. We hope you enjoy it as always and will see you next weekend!
For those of you following along at home, The Best of Kim Stanley Robinson, edited by yours truly, is due in stores in a month or so. The good folk at US radio’s “All Things Considered” on NPR review the book and find a lot to like.

“Fantasy is going through an explosion of creativity. Two new anthologies showcase the best of it: Stories: All-New Tales, edited by Neil Gaiman and Al Sarrantonio, and Swords & Dark Magic, edited by Jonathan Strahan and Lou Anders.”
