Episode 100: Live with Gary K. Wolfe!

It’s our 100th episode and our 2nd Anniversary! Bereft of even so much as a good champagne-cork-popping sound effect we discuss the podcast, the recently announced Locus Awards ballot, consensus in science fiction and who is the new Dean of Science Fiction, and touch on what we’ve been reading lately.

We had all sorts of grandiose plans for the 100th episode, but in the end it’s just the two of us, rambling. We do want to thank all of our listeners, guests, commentators and friends – anyone who’s said anything nice about the podcast at all – for your enthusiasm and support. That’s what will get us through the next 100 episodes!

  1. Congrats on a 100 episodes…

I dont always agree with you guys (for example, I cant understand your glowing praise for The Windup Girl), but listening to you is nearly always interesting, and I have learned a thing or three along the way.

  2. Congratulations gentlemen on the milestone and best wishes for future episodes.

I’m a longtime listener and occasional commenter here. As someone who has been reading and collecting SF for over 40 years, I find your discussions (and yes, the ramblings) to be absolutely fascinating – the present ‘format’ works for me.

One suggestion though, if I may: I usually listen in the car while commuting so it’s almost impossible for me to make a written note when you guys mention a book or author that sparks my interest and makes me want to follow up later. It would be really useful for me (and I suspect others) if you could put up some ‘show notes’ for future episodes that listed all of the books and authors mentioned in that episode, perhaps with the blog post that announces its availability.

    Again, my congratulations.

  3. Really enjoyed this episode and your comments about generational change struck home. Went looking for The Cupboard under the Stairs and its out of print.

  4. Congratulations on the 100th!

Please don’t change too much as the current approach with Jonathan & Gary rambling on topics topical or that pique the participants’ interest is what makes it work; part of the charm. I also enjoy the episodes with guests (recent highlights were the ones with Ursula Le Guin, also the one with Jo Walton). If no jingle, what about a T-shirt or coffee mug? Or maybe a wine glass etched with “Gary, we’re rambling”?

  5. Gentlemen,

Let me add my congratulations on your 100th episode and second anniversary. The podcast is always interesting and I often find myself nodding in agreement, and occasionally not as well. But the world would be boring if we all thought the same way. I don’t mind the rambling that goes on and I have enjoyed the guests you’ve had on the show. Hopefully there will be many, many more to come!
